It’s hilarious thinking of the scene. You’re talking to your ‘friend’ sharing on an issue. They then go off on one and for all your best efforts it’s as though all that matters is their way of seeing things. After a while that ‘friend’ doesn’t last long as you choose to go to someone who will listen and seek to understand rather than just spout out their answers. Listening to understand is one of the hardest and yet most worthwhile pursuits to go on to build effective relationships – it’s not just with your ears, it’s with a compassionate heart.
A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion. (Proverbs 18:2)
